So minty fresh...

...and hopefully somewhat clean-clean!

Well I got a bee in my bonnet about mint green, because although I love green and have lots of green tops, I didn't have anything minty. I wandered around the mall after work and didn't see anything, but a quick stop at the Salvation Army offered up this cute jacket. The buttons might be questionable, but I actually really like the shape.

Pardon the lazy-wear underneath. I had to work on my "day off", and when that happens I like to dress like I'm not at work to lessen the blow. Didn't have to see any clients of course. Also, that's not my nipple; there are buttons all around the inside of the neckline, which tells me that there used to be a hideous detachable collar. Oh, the versatile 80's!

More wedded bliss...

Last night we went to my cousin's wedding and it was quite lovely. It was at a little yacht club in West Van and it was such a beautiful evening - one of those nights that there's no chill in the air even at eleven. They had a catered BBQ for dinner which was awesome, and I'm kind of picky about BBQ.

I love getting to see all my relatives, and it's cool to see people get all emotional about a marriage. However, it looks like Karl was ready to go, doesn't it?

Here's something I thought about: what's up with girls who wear tarty little bar-star dresses to weddings? I've been to several weddings in the last year, and there always seems to be a couple of girls in dresses that don't really seem appropriate for a wedding. Like, turn it down a notch, this is a family function. Happily, all the ladies at my wedding looked amazing!

Greta Constantine

Anyone who watched season one of Project Runway Canada probably remembers the injustice of Steven Wong not making it to the final three... But don't worry, he's not doing to badly. Actually, he's doing better than any of the ones that did make it, I'd say. He designs this label, Greta Constantine, with his partner, and the lookbook for next season has some beautiful dresses. I just love that they go for the full-on vampy glam, and I am totally excited by the fact that they sell these dresses. In Canada. Land of slop, for the most part, when it comes to evening wear. I think that's a huge achievement. Of course I'm sure there's pressure to move away to more lucrative market, but regardless of where they go, I think they've got the talent to make it.

I know it's been said before, but MP3's are killing the cover art star! I have no idea what the cover art looks like on the music I'm listening to these days, and it's a damn shame. For the ultimate, you've got to go back to the vinyl. It's big and it's cardboard, baby. These are just a few of my favorites - not necessarily the music, but the I love the pictures. Maybe I judge an album by it's cover too!

With Glowing Thighs?

Ha ha, I found a great reason to wear my red suede shorts I thought were destined never to make it out of the closet - Canada Day! My friend Anna and I went to the Salmon Festival in Steveston and I decided for once in my life I'd dress festively! So I did the whole red and white thing, even though red's not my colour. And yes, I am wearing white tights, though my skin's almost that pale.

The Canada Day celebrations were ugh, typical: wait in line for bank machine, wait in line for bathroom, wait in line for food, wait to sit and eat, wait in car to get out of parking. I have to try not to be irritated and cynical: it was a beautiful day and it was heartwarming to see such a diverse community out having fun together and really enjoying Canada Day. I think as I get older I have less tolerance for crowds.

Current favorite nail polish colour: For Audrey, by China Glaze. It's the perfect robin's egg blue. Gotta clean up my feet and paint my toenails tonight!

Worth another look

When was the last time you watched Natural Born Killers? If, like me, you haven't seen it since it was in theatres in 1994, it might be high time to watch it again. I remember that it was pretty controversial when it came out, and it's still a crazy movie, but I guess it didn't spawn a host of copy cats like people feared. It's kind of like a trippy, frantic music video, and all of the hyper-violence still shocks me, but I loved watching it. For one thing, the music is awesome. I used to have the soundtrack, and I love the Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, Jane's Addiction, L7 etc. Quite a moment in time. Grade nine, I guess.

Also, the clothes that Juliette Lewis's character, Mallory wears, are so sweet. Kind of little-girl trashy meets cowboy stripper. I love the wedding scene (above) where she has on the floral dress and the long veil and the crimped blond wig. Watching it reminded me what good actors both Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis (and Robert Downey Jr, and Tommy Lee Jones...) are. They don't do many movies, but when they do, those characters really stick in my head. A much better approach to a career than most actors have, I'd say.

Cool car in the movie too. The fact that they drive a 1970 Dodge Challenger legitimized the whole movie for Karl!

Weekend Shenanigans

My weekend started off with an amazing meal with my friends at an Iranian restaurant on Davie called Darchin. It was so delicious; one of those meals that when you're done you just want to start all over again!

Then we played Scattergories and had some drinks and laughed like hyenas. Board games can be so fun if you are in that kind of mood. Now we are on the quest for Pictionary!

Night time pictures. I LOVE this dress. It may be my thrift find of the decade. It's Tadashi and the body is really thick stretchy fabric, and I know it shows my lumps but I don't care. The shoulders are so frickin' great, almost a little homage to MJ, as someone pointed out last night!

And today was pretty fun too. I did a little photoshoot with my amazing hairdresser Kelly. She's a super-talented artist and photographer too, and she wanted me to be her doll, which I was into because I got to model some of my seldom worn favorites. Stay tuned for pictures. Funny shoes and blue flowers

They're plastic gardening clogs, OK? They do not leave the perimeter of the property.

I just love the variations of the shades of blue.

The white roses are from the huge shrubs in the front that are so laden they look like snow drifts. I don't know what kind of roses they are, but the almost form a hedge.
