Lemon Sorbet

I couldn't resist this shirt at the thrift store. I almost talked myself out of it because I recently bought the exact same one in emerald green, but I love this colour! It's soft and cool and kind of a cross between lemon and honeydew. These shirts seem to be cheap and plentiful at thrift stores, and they're silk and perfect for the summer.

Cool

Aww, how sad is it that I'm still wearing heavy tights in the end of June?

Pink

The heavy rain caused these pretty blooms to break off, so they are brightening our living room perfectly in sweet cups from the tea set Anna gave me for my birthday.

Shadows and Light

Morgan has a new friend. And by friend I mean a cat that can come on the front steps without her shrieking bloody murder. He's quite friendly though; he comes right in the house and lets us pet him and pick him up. Another Buddy in the making? No, I think he has a home, he's just a visitor!

Well Wed

Yesterday was the big day! They tied the knot and it was a fabulous day, from the getting ready to the sweet ceremony to the wonderful dinner and dancing. Everyone pitched in and did such a good job - it was a really special day.

The beautiful bride! She cleans up pretty good, doesn't she? I designed the dress and I think it suited her perfectly - fresh, soft, bohemian but elegant: just like her. And check out that bouquet! It was kind of impromptu: I brought over a bunch of flowers from my garden and Nicolette and I kind of volunteered to give it a try. Nicolette has a serious Martha Stewart gene, and I think it turned out pretty rad. In fact, we ended up making all the boutonnieres and corsages as well. Secret talents, I guess.

How many weddings do you go to that have a personal ukulele serenade performance? It was so cool. He played some original songs as well as some covers and it was a major crowd-pleaser.

Congratulations kids!

Blinded by the white...

Wow, look at those pale legs! Nice how the bruises really show up, isn't it? At least they match the shorts... At work today my co-worker kind of complemented me, saying that it's OK that I'm pale, because people expect redheads to be pale. She has dark hair and pale skin, and says she never wears shorts. I'm glad I wore my clogs with this outfit. I like them a lot, but I haven't found much to wear them with.

Beautiful Detail

I couldn't stop staring at the stunning pleated organza detail on these pants! It'll be a little bit tedious to recreate, but I can't resist trying.

Queen for a Day!

Last night was a combination stagette/hair and makeup trial/birthday party for one of my very best friends. It was so fun to hang out, just the girls. From playing beauty parlour to greasy diner food in the wee hours, sometimes it's great to indulge a little!

Kitchen

Look at that amazing sink! Is it just me, or is everyone's first renovation choice always the kitchen? Photos from theselby.com.

Summer Romance

Having summer weddings to go to seems to be a great excuse, er, reason to buy a new dress, doesn't it? I have weddings to attend, but unfortunately I also have plenty of dresses in my closet that need to justify their existence if they don't want to be headed for the charity bag. If that wasn't the case, and if I had a few (hundred) extra bones lying around, this very pretty Vena Cava dress would do the trick.

Love

Saturday was our wedding anniversary - four years. We went out for a really nice, romantic dinner at Les Faux Bourgeois. I had wonderful lamb and ratatouille with horseradish cream, and creme brule for dessert. I love a good meal!

Is the dress the shortest dress I've ever worn? Maybe so. I would definitely not wear it without opaque tights. But even with the very expensive $13 price tag at the thrift store, I couldn't say no.

These earrings came from an antique store in New Westminster a few years ago, and they are as heavy as they are beautiful! I wear them a few times a year, but never for a whole day.

Drawing the line

Trends come at us pretty fast and furious these days, and I'm not afraid to admit that I pretty much swallow them all whole with little regard for what's flattering or functional. But a little browsing on Pixie Market this evening reminded me that I do have limits.

I know these open-toed ankle sandals are everywhere, but seriously, what the hell? Sweaty ankles on a hot day? Cold, wet toes on a dreary day? Too much bulk around the ankle with bare legs, an awkward style with pants... I just don't see a single thing about these to recommend them.

And why oh why are there so many crop tops available? Are kids these days too young to remember the lessons we learned in the late nineties? Muffin-tops ring a bell? I do not want to return to the days when you couldn't go out in public without seeing tummies everywhere, please!

Sweet Saturday

I've had this dress for, hmmm, maybe over fifteen years. I bought it at a flea market on Quadra, and I love the soft pastel floral print and the simple style, maybe late fifties/early sixties. The label says that it was made in Montreal, and I often find that many of my favorite second-hand pieces are made in Canada, back in the olden days, when quality mattered and companies could afford to have things manufactured here.

After, again

As you can see, I'm happy with my shorter shorts.

After!

Look at that beauty! New handle-bars, brakes, grips, derailer, shifter, wheels, tires (and probably some parts I can't remember). What I do know is that it's way lighter, smoother, quieter and more comfortable! I'm really excited for bike riding this summer.

And I'm not sure where I found this picture, but I liked the warm, soft feel of it and the vintage lacey-ness and the shoes.

Still waiting for the sun.

I want to wear this plastic bow everyday. Got it at Value Village for $0.99, and
I think I'll pretend it's Bakelite.
