Electric Ladyland

Vogue Spain has an editorial featuring Anja Rubik in Jimi Hendrix-inspired spring trends. It's alright, I'm not knocking it, but it made me want to find some inspiration from the source.

I swear, the man did not wear a bad outfit. Admittedly, there are not gazillions of images of him, but every outfit he was photographed in was amazing. Makes me want for spring: vests, embroidery, leather, ruffles, fringe, rings, medallions, worn denim, and hey, maybe even a floppy hat.

My Opinionation

I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror at work today and wondered if I'm just a sunflower hat away from Blossom...
When I take pictures in the evening I'm never sure if flash or no flash is better.

Kitty cat interruption.

Who can guess...

...what this borderline seventies-love-seat fabric is from? I was a little too late for an outfit shot today; I missed the daylight. But I'm sure you'll be seeing more of this soon.

Christopher Kane Fall 2010 RTW

I refuse to contemplate fall. But I was weak and took a few peeks at what's going on in London, and I like this collection. It's kind of weird but it's working for me. Very original, not much retro-rehashing.

Late-winter Cleaning

The glorious sun yesterday inspired me to do a good cleaning of the bedroom yesterday. I remember watching Oprah once and seeing her talk about the bedroom. It should be a sanctuary, the most beautiful room in your house. It should be decked out with fresh flowers, fancy candles and the finest linens, not to mention a comfy chair by the window for reading. Sounds great, Oprah, shall I send you the bill?

Unfortunately, our bedroom tends to be one of the more neglected rooms in the house, mostly because guests can't see it! If there's money to be spent on the house, it goes towards rooms that other people have to spend time in. If Karl and I are the only ones who know that our bedroom walls need painting and we buy sheets on the cheap at Winners, that's fine.

However. Cleanliness I can afford, and it was high time. I did a full closet clean-out, complete with culling. Our closet is miniature, and I'm not the only one who tends to go a little overboard on clothing, so it's necessary to go through it all once in a while to get rid of the stuff we don't wear. I do allow myself a small box of "sentimental value" clothes, but that too must be edited. We ended up with three big bags for donating or consigning, which means the closet is much more workable, and has a teeny bit of room for new acquisitions. I also feel good about putting together a bag for mending/alterations/restyling, and another for dry cleaning. I hate dry cleaning!

Then we washed all the linens and it was perfect weather for drying them on the clothesline. What a treat in February! I have to say, I slept very well last night on my clean, cheap linens, knowing my wardrobe was neat and tidy.

small doses daily

I had the day off work today so Karl and I braved the chaos downtown for a little bit of sightseeing. I refuse to line up for anything short of lifesaving surgery or a trans-Atlantic flight, so we didn't do any of the pavilions, and I'm still not a big fan of the Olympics so we kept it brief. A couple of hours was plenty of time.

Red is my least favorite colour to wear, but I do have a couple of items. I won this gold and red sweater from a giveaway on Style Symmetry, from Poochie's Closet. I was happy to have it today; I'm certainly not going to be buying any Olympic merchandise!

To highlight the obnoxiousness of a redhead in red, I added my bright matte pink lipstick. Breakin' all the rules today.

** Note the blooming clematis and daffodils. I love how the warmest February even coincides with the "winter" Olympics.

My boss is so awesome; he gave me these vintage sunglasses yesterday. His optometrist has a little collection of vintage glasses from Europe and I guess customers just get their prescriptions put in, but these were just basic sunglasses, and they are so perfect.

And it was sunny enough to wear them today! Not only is it still light out when I get home from work, it has actually been bright and sunny this week. Beware the coming garden photos...

Warm Breezes

Spring is coming and I will no longer be avoiding leather shorts at the thrift store. My red suede ones are still a little on the tight side, and I love the paper-bag waist of the Zara shorts above.

I really didn't plan on the forest green - black and white print combo, it just worked out that way. I wear this sweatshirt and scarf almost every day.

I caved and bought some black, wedge-heeled booties. I couldn't say no. They don't have quite the bad-ass rocker vibe of the first ones I coveted, but they were less than half the price, and let's be honest, how much of a bad-ass am I?

P.S. Don't tell Morgan I stood on her mat, OK?
